Hillcrest Labs open sources Kylo web browser for TVs, hopes the people want one

We didn’t hear much from Hillcrest Labs’ Kylo web browser for TVs after it launched in 2010, but now the company is apparently turning its fate over to the community. A Mozilla-based browser, Kylo will work with any mouse but is designed specifically for its Freespace pointer controls

Netflix and Twentieth Century Fox ink deal to bring additional Instant content to Latin America, Brazil

Twentieth Century Fox and Netflix have announced a partnership that will bring additional television and movie content to avid streamers living in Latin America and Brazil later this year. Beginning on July 15th, TV mainstays — including 24 , Prison Break , Bones and Glee — will be available via the movie rental company’s Instant service in the aforementioned geographies.

BBC Sport app brings Olympics and more to Sony Bravia TVs, PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray players

While Sony was busy launching its HX8 TVs over in the UK, it let slip another nugget of televisual goodness. That extra BBC Sport coverage that’s planned for summer, and available as a TiVo app , will also be coming to UK owners of Bravia TVs (2011 and onwards,) PS3s, and even some Blu-ray players (at a later date). Those 24 channels of HD Olympic action will be translated into live streams, and there will be the usual array of catch-up options too

Spike TV airing Microsoft’s ‘Xbox: Entertainment Evolved’ from E3, also coming to Xbox Live

Similar to last year’s airing of Microsoft’s E3 keynote , Spike TV’s once again offering gamers who won’t be making the trip to Los Angeles a quick way to enjoy a little bit of the show. The famed Major Nelson revealed the news that Spike TV will be showing the entire 90-minute Xbox: Entertainment Evolved event live on its network, which takes place on June 4th at 12:30PM Eastern time — of course, we’ll be there covering it.

Comcast VOD coming to Boston TiVos, next gen X1 DVR platform could launch there too

Comcast already reported its Q1 results earlier today but on the earnings call CEO of the cable division Neil Smit revealed its next generation X1 cloud DVRs (previously called Xcalibur and promised for a wide rollout to “hundreds of thousands” of customers this year ) will launch in a major market in the second quarter.
